Look it doesn’t matter who you are – young or old, short or tall. Chances are you use a laptop and are probably tired of your battery always dying or needing a charge. Today will show you tips for saving your laptop battery life and extended it just a little bit longer. These are tricks that work well whether you have a new laptop/notebook or one that is several years old. The key is to make sure you are doing things that help preserve your battery at least many laptops do have replaceable batteries that you can just take out and replace.
Unplugging Your Battery To Preserve Life
I know most non techies won’t believe or understand this but having you notebook plugged up all the time is bad for the life of the battery. Sure you maybe thinking your are saving your laptop battery but in fact you are hurting it. The good thing though is that the batteries today don’t have a memory so basically you can charge and charge them and it won’t hurt them. The bad thing about leaving them plugged up is that batteries stop charging at 100%.
However it will be constantly charging if you are working since the goal of the charge is to be at 100 so when it never will let it drop to 99%. Not good for the life of the battery. However remember that over time the battery will get weaker and weaker and the older the battery usually the shorter it will hold on to a charge.
Turn Off Those Bright Lights
Another tip to help save the battery life of your laptop is to make sure that you dim or minimize the brightness of your computer screen. If you don’t need your laptop to be bright then turn it down and this will also help you save on power.
One of the biggest power drain your your notebook is the screen backlight. Though most laptops/notebooks/tablets today have LED the still manage to suck up a great deal of power from the battery. Just by lowering your screens brightness you could possibly add another 30-45 minutes to the time your battery lasts.
Buy A Second Battery if Possible – Backup
One of the easiest thing to do would be to just make sure you have a backup battery to help preserve the battery life. Batteries are meant to be used and thus expected to run out at some time. While there are a lot of laptops that don’t have or offer replaceable batteries most do.
Saving your laptop battery in this case means having two to make sure they both last a little longer. Well they won’t last longer is just that you won’t be using them both twice as much. The batteries are usually guaranteed for a shorter period of time under the warranty because they expect you to need a new one after a while. Buying an extra battery won’t cost too much as you can usually find a genetic brand on Ebay or Amazon for cheap.
Cut Back On All The Apps and Programs
A lot of people will have 10-15 programs and apps running on their laptop and will want to know why the battery is not lasting very long. You are not managing your memory or battery power. Having too many things open at once tends to force the laptop to use up all of the free memory. Once the free system memory is used everything else gets pushed to the hard disk. When this happens you get more power being drained from the battery so it dies just a little bit faster.
When mechanical devices are forced to run on your computer it not only kills the battery but slows down the laptop as well. Solution just use what you need and if you need to run more programs or apps try putting more memory on your laptop. Hey Turn-off The Wi-FI and Bluetooth
I don’ know why people like to leave these on at all times. I have seen people not ever use Bluetooth on their laptop yet they are always on. These two radios use a good deal of power and would be better served if you turn them off if they are not in use. It also can hurt your system.
Just Keep Your Laptop Lean and Mean
Want to really kick saving your laptop battery life up a few notches? Then make that machine as lean and mean as possible. Put all these things together and get your laptop in order. Take off or remove things you don’t really need or use. There are a lot of things in general that are on your laptop just eating away at your battery.
Things like maxing out your RAM, reducing your CPU usage, running fewer background programs, and even getting rid of your screensaver. The screensaver really does nothing for you so why have it on in the first place? Just turn the display off and than you can saving your laptop battery.
