Today we get the announcement for Dell that it plans to release its next generation of learning tools with the new Dell Chromebook 11. Unlike the HP Pavilion 14-q010nr Chromebook this is the very first Chromebook to be released by the company and they wanted to bring this to the table to offer students and teachers with an affordable and highly portable machine.
The Dell Chromebook 11 was designed by Dell with the students, teachers and classroom in mind. This Chromebook is not only secure and fast but also allows easy access to apps and content. Currently Dell has a presence in over 400,000 classrooms around the world and this new Chromebook 11 is sure to hit the desks of many teachers and students alike.
This notebook from Dell comes with a 11.6 inch display with edge to edge glass, Wi-Fi connectivity on 802.11a/b/g/n, two USB 3.0 ports and screen resolution of 1366 x 766. The Chromebook 11 also comes with full sized HDMI-out port for 1080p video and Bluetooth 4.0 for your new high tech low power devices. The laptop comes with a front facing camera and it is able to supply you with 720p video for all your video chatting needs.
With both high performance and slim design this Dell Chromebook 11 has it all. The 4th Generation Intel Celeron 2955 processor alone with up to 10 hours of battery life from a single charge. The 16GB solid state drive to help boot times stay under 8.4 seconds as well as coming in two models: 4GB of DDR3 Ram and 2GB of RAM.
The 4GB version of the Dell Chromebook 11 will be available in January of 2014 with the 2GB Dell Chromebook 11 model being available some time in the first quarter of 2014. The prices of the two notebooks is expected to be sub $300. Both will come with Dell’s Limited Hardware Warranty that covers defects for 1 year.
For teachers this Chromebook will be great for managing and making sure that there students are safe. The Dell laptop comes with an easy to use web-based console the allows for easy tracking and configuration. Teachers and administrators can use the technology on the Chromebook 11’s to remove or push applications and also enforce safe web surfing on all Chromebooks in the school’s network.
The PocketCloud app allows you to turn the Dell Chromebook 11 into a remote desktop. At that point a student or teacher will be able to access Microsoft Office suite and makes changes as well access Outlook. The application for the Dell laptop will be available for download in January. This is something that will be greatly appreciated by students who want to gain remote access to the laptop from their tablets or smartphones.
There are other chromebooks out there that might warrant your attention as well. the Acer C7 C72-2802 Chromebook can be had for $199. There are a lot of chromebooks on the market but I think the Dell Chromebook 11 is catering to a specific group and they are making this clear.
