New Ultrabook HP ZBook 15 Mobile Workstation Review and Specs

Hewlett Packard ZBook series allow for you to have your workstation on the go. The new HP ZBook 15 mobile workstation has a long battery life, can be easily customized and has a both good display and audio. The one thing you need to get prepared for is the weight of the notebook and the price tag.

The 15.6 HP ZBook 15 workstation was designed to be a powerhouse and expected to be used heavily for productivity. This is not your run of the mill ultra book and the ZBook is capable of handling some of the most demanding computer task out there. Though this is a great workstation it not something that everyone needs or are willing to pay the price for.

The first thing you will notice when you pick up the ZBook 15 from HP is that this is not a light weight. The HP ZBook weighs in at 6.2 pounds and measures in at 15 x 10.1 x 1.2 inches. One of the reasons this ultrabook weighs as much as it does is because it was designed to be customized.

HP states that up to 3 hard drives can actually fit on the ZBook 15. It also comes with a removable bottom that allows you quick and easy access to the internals of the computer. Need a larger hard drive? Up to a 1TB hard drive can fit in the primary slot.

When it comes to the design simple is best in our opinion and HP chose to go with magnesium alloy casing and brushed aluminum. The one thing you are sure to not be happy about is how quickly this ZBook picks up finger prints. On the interior of the ultra book you will see that they stayed clean and simple with black for the inside much like it is on the outside.

The keyboard for the HP ZBook does have backlit and is very very comfortable. The keyboard comes with full number pad and is spill resistant. Overall the keys feel almost as if you were typing on a desktop. The touchpad is great and is really responsive.

When it comes to the display and audio the mobile workstation has both great display and sound. The display with 1920 x 1080 FHD screen makes for beautiful viewing and the audio comes from the front mount speakers that are a joy to listen to.

The ZBook mobile workstation also comes with fingerprint scanner that can be enrolled at the Client Security Manager from Hewlett-Packard. With this you can log into websites and even sign into your computer without your password needing to be typed in.

Perfomance is something that you have to be pleased with when you are spending that amount of money you have to in order to get one of the ZBook mobile workstations.  The ZBook has not issues in this area at is loads quickly and boots up in less than 245 seconds. Running multiple programs and switching in between them is a breeze and doesn’t slow the HP ultrabook down at all.

All and all if you want something that will perform better than most laptops out there this is the one for you. However at $2,486 sticker price its not something everyone is willing to pay for and certainly don’t need. Swapping out your hard drive or having three is a simple as opening the bottom door and with the Thunderbolt you will get a lot faster data transfer speed. There are however a lot of choices out there to compare such as the MacBook Pro or the Dell Precision M4800. Be sure to check them out as well.
